In order to explore the identification and determination of earthquake precursor anomalies by using the method of cross-fault characteristic intensity index, all the observation data of five cross-fault sites ( Chuxiong, Lijiang, Yongsheng, Xundian, Jianshui ) in Yunnan from 1982 to 2019 are used to calculate the cross-fault characteristic intensity index, and extract possible earthquake precursor anomaly information according to different window lengths. Combined with historical earthquake cases, this paper discusses the relationship between earthquakes with M≥6.5 and cross-fault characteristic strength indexes in Yunnan and its surrounding areas. The results show that the cross-fault characteristic strength index is generally effective in the application of 5 cross fault sites, which can capture the abnormal information before earthquakes in Yunnan area and can be used in the actual earthquake tracking analysis.
